     The United States Tax Court hears 95% of all IRS tax disputes decided by a Court. • A taxpayer needs a Notice of Deficiency "ticket" to go to Tax Court.
• A taxpayer only has 90 days after the Notice of Deficiency is mailed to file a Petition with the Tax Court.
• There is a special 150 day exception rule that may assist a taxpayer when filing a Tax Court petition.
• The IRS is required to mail its Notice of Deficiency to a taxpayer's last known address, or it could invalidate it.
• The United States Tax Court is headquartered in Washington, D.C., but it visits 62 select cities.
• A taxpayer who timely files a Petition with the Tax Court does not have to prepay the disputed tax before the Court hears their case.
• Jury trials are not permitted in United States Tax Court.
• Under Tax Court rules, a taxpayer generally has the burden of proving the IRS wrong.
